What Are livelihoods?

Livelihoods analysis provides information on how and why people survive (or fail to survive) difficult times. FEWS NET?s livelihoods framework is the lens through which early warning information is interpreted and the basis of analysis for decision support.

FEWS NET?s livelihoods framework is used to identify geographically relevant variables for monitoring systems and to interpret monitoring and field data. It provides analysts with a means to predict and judge the impact of a shock on household income and food access.
