Food Security Framework | Key Population Groups
Refugees, internally displaced persons, and host communities in the East are chronically food insecure due to the strong dependence on assistance.
The poor in the Sahelian zone includes about one million people, who see major acute food insecurity one year in three.
Poor distribution of rainfall in 2009/2010 resulted in a food crisis from which the people most affected will need at least two years to recover. These populations are:
- Sedentary agro-pastoralists and poor pastoralists located in Grand Kanem, the eastern part of Lac, western Batha and northern Biltine regions.
- Agriculturalists and agro-pastoralists in the Eastern rainfed cereals zone, those bordering Sudan, and those in the Western agro-pastoral zone.
- The agro-pastoralists and fishermen who are in the Central agro-pastoral and fishing zone near Lake Fitri.
