    • Food availability is average across the country, with pockets of poor production in Niger Delta, the lakes region, the western Sahel and parts Gao and Timbuktu regions along the river. Market gardening harvests are underway and are contributing to improved food consumption and revenues for households in these areas.

    • Cereal supply in markets remains satisfactory throughout the country despite security incidents in some parts of the north. Prices of staple foods are above the five-year average, which is not favorable for adequate market access by poor households.

    • The early degradation of pastoral conditions in the western Sahel and in parts of pastoral areas in the north, negatively affect livestock production and income for pastoral households. The deterioration of terms of trade for livestock/cereals, has resulted in limited access to markets for poor pastoralist households.

    • Poor households in pastoral areas of Timbuktu and Gao, and in the western Sahel, have resorted to unusual early migration, to borrowing, and to unusual labor activities, due to the above-average cereal prices and early depletion of household stocks. As a result, the are in Stressed (IPC Phase 2).
